As a part of the city comprehensive plan, the Providence Planning Department has been have neighborhood”charrettes (which are planning session that aim to get input from neighbors, business, people who live, work and play in our neighborhoods).  We have just learned that the charrette for the West Side will be during the week of May 4, 2009.  More details from The Planning Department will follow in the coming weeks.  In order to have a representative and comprehensive plan, it is important to get as many individual voices as possible participating.  So please mark your calendars and plan to participate, and tell your neighbor.

Providence Gas Meter Hearing Next Wednesday
The last public hearing on gas meter legislation is happening NEXT WEDNESDAY, March 11 at 7pm, at the Public Safety Complex, 325 Washington Street in Providence.

This is a critical meeting that will finally give Rhode Island communities the chance to voice their concerns directly to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC), the main agency that regulates and governs National Grid. This meeting is being organized by the PUC and is being held specifically for citizens to comment on National Grid's attempt to nullify the Providence City Ordinance passed last fall that protects homeowners and their property rights against destructive gas meter installations on homes.

The Ordinance has already proven to be an effective deterrent to National Grid. Sources have indicated that this legislation is the primary reason that National Grid has not continued its project in the Federal Hill neighborhood.

While this hearing is about city gas meter legislation, its outcome will impact everyone in the state. I urge you to make time next Wednesday to show up and give voice to this issue, even if you live outside the city of Providence.

Not only could this legislation be precedent-setting for other parts of Rhode Island, but this meeting is the first time the Public Utilities Commission will have heard from all of you about this issue. This may be our only chance to make a very big statement to the PUC. Tell your story, share your concern, and protect your rights!

We need a huge showing of people at this hearing to represent all RI communities.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best,
Jessica

Dear West Side Resident,

My name is Scott Middleton.  I'm an undergraduate at Brown and I'm working with the West Broadway Neighborhood Association to compile your needs and suggestions for the Dexter Training Ground in order to initiate a discussion. My goal is to present a series of proposals to the city and to the neighborhood at an upcoming charrette* for your feedback, where together we will make decisions regarding the future of the park.  Input from as many residents and area groups as possible is imperative to be representative of the neighborhood.  Please take a moment to review this survey and respond by March 16.  Your time is greatly appreciated. Also, please forward on to other West Side residents and groups, our goal is to be inclusive of all.
*The Providence Planning Department has tentatively scheduled for the week of May 4."

I've invited you to fill out the form Dexter Training Ground Survey. To fill it out, visit:
