BIG Neighborhood Tree Planting this Saturday, March 28
Neighbors Tod Damon and David Udris working togehter with the Providence Neighborhood Planting program have organized two tree plantings in the neighborhood this Saturday, between 8am and 10am, which begins at 511 Washington Street. All are welcome!
Many neighbors participated in organizing this massive planting of 31 trees that spans Broadway and Westminster between Knight and Primrose Streets. In addition, our neighbors on Westminster and Washington Streets are leading an adjacent planting of 32 trees immediately after our planting. The two huge plantings make up a total of 63 new trees that will be planted in our neighborhood this Saturday!!!! Thank you neighbors and PNPP!
This is the third planting in this area in three years and demonstrates our community's strong desire for improvement, safety, and beautification of our Federal Hill and West Side neighborhoods. As you know, the benefits of City trees are numerous and go beyond aesthetics to reduce air and noise pollution, diminish storm water runoff, slow traffic, and reduce crime and other city blight.
Businesses and partnerships in our neighborhood, such as Seven Stars Bakery, E & O Tap, the Avery, and the WBNA are providing tools, refreshments and outreach to the neighborhood for help on planting day.
READY OR NOT HERE I COME
My show at AS220 is called Ready or Not Here I Come and contains architecture from the west side. It is open through March 28. -Deborah Hickey, Willow Street
READY OR NOT HERE I COME After reading much literature on Providence's 'Renaissance' I decided to move from Boston to Providence in 2003 to participate in the city's renewal. I was as interested in affordable housing as I was in pursuing a career as an artist and Providence seemed to be a city full of promise for both. Through the camera I began to connect with my new city by exploring Providence's landscape and architecture. I bought a home on the West Side in 2005 and at the same time began creating a new style of painting by transferring my architectural photographs onto wood and canvas.
READY OR NOT HERE I COME is a collection of some of the images I found when I came to the Providence Renaissance. They are images of change, perseverance and beauty. By taking a short walk from Willow Street you can find most of the buildings in this show.

There also will be a Carnival Wheel Game where you can win the following prizes:
$25 gift certificate to Sterling Cleaners $50 gift certificate to Broadway Bistro $50 gift card to Julians Restaurant $60 valued limited edition Armory Centennial print by Pete Cardoso

In addition, neighbors will be eligible to win the Mystery Door Prize OR to enter the raffle to win two Boston Red Sox Tickets for the Saturday night, 4/18, game against the Baltimore Orioles. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. All proceeds from the event benefit the WBNA and its efforts to promote the West Side of Providence as a save, vibrant, and sustainable place to live, work, and play.
"Our Annual 'Roll-the-Dice' Kickoff is one of the WBNA's best events because it brings all our members together for an evening of camaraderie," said WBNA Executive Director Kari Lang. "Food, fun and drink at one of the West Side's great restaurants, make the Membership Kick-off one of our favorite events."

WBNA Spring Clean-up
Saturday, April 25 from 8:30am-1pm
Neighbors come together for our annual spring clean-up to clean our streets, sidewalks, and parks. Meet at 8:30am at the Dexter Training Ground for coffee and donuts. Bring your own shovels and brooms or sign out tools from the WBNA Tool Bank. Clean, clean, clean, and then meet back at the WBNA HQ for a hot dog and hamburger barbeque!
PLUS consider volunteering as a Street or Block Captain for your street or block for the clean-up. All you need to do is offer to flyer your street, encourage as many of your neighbors to participate, and then be the leader for your street on clean-up day. A fun bonus for being a Street Captain is that you get to be go to the Street Captain Party where you will get the flyers and other details. Email wbna@wbna.org if you would like to be a street captain and PLEASE spread the word to other neighbors.
WBNA Neighborhood-wide Yard Sale
Saturday, May 30th, from 8:30AM-1PM
Email wbna@wbna.org to get on the Yard Sale Map! Our goal is to have 25-50 individual yard sales throughout the neighborhood on the Yard Sale Map. It costs just $10 to get on the map. And then all proceeds at your sale go to YOU, OR if you don't want to have a sale, consider donating quality items in good condition to the WBNA and we will sell it for you. Those proceeds go to the WBNA, BUT you can get a tax deduction for your donation.
We also are looking for volunteers to help at the WBNA on Yard Sale Day or to bake goodies for the WBNA Café on Yard Sale day. Let us know, good neighbors!
