Hi, Many of you who live in the Federal Hill community that became National Grid's most heated project area last year will be receiving a notice in the next few days (or have already received it) from National Grid regarding construction in the neighborhood. The notice indicates that work is being done to gas mains in the street only on West Fountain Street (between Luongo Memorial Square and Cargill) and on Winter Street which is adjacent to West Fountain. National Grid is installing the last connecting piece of high pressure main so that our neighbors at Grant Mill can use their gas service this winter. There will be an identifiable National Grid representative on site to answer any questions or concerns neighbors might have. Kari and I have been assured that NO individual gas services/meters will be affected by this work. Please contact Kari, me, and/or Marisa Albanese from National Grid (401.784.7090) should you have any concerns otherwise. Marisa told us that NGrid will most likely wait until next April to do any work on individual gas services/meters in our neighborhood. Though National Grid will not do any work on our meters until next spring, NOW IS THE TIME to start thinking about appropriate locations on the outside of your property for the small green gas regulator and its piping. The gas company will be contacting homeowners this fall and asking them to choose locations for their regulators and meters. It also wants to hold a community meeting sometime this fall to help distribute information, get homeowner feedback, and to set up appointments for meter location choices. If National Grid already installed piping and/or a gas regulator on your home last summer, the company will remove the equipment next spring, repair any damage to your property, and re-install the equipment where you prefer in accordance with the law. Also, almost all the houses involved in National Grid's project area fall within a National Register Historic District. Because of our historic designation, the law states that you may keep your gas meter(s) inside if you wish and that the gas company cannot install gas meters on the exterior of your property without your permission and without the consent of the historic district commission. The small green regulator, however, must remain outside (for safety reasons). Lastly, Marisa and a National Grid engineer will be looking for any asphalt patches from previous work that need to be repaired before winter. Please let Kari, me, or Marisa know if you need repairs done on your property immediately.
