West Side Thursdays: Sidy Maïga and Afrimanding

  • Dexter Training Ground Parade Street & Hudson Street Providence, RI 02909 (map)

Immerse yourself in the world music fusion of Sidy Maïga and Afrimanding, bringing West African drumming infused with hip-hop and the Caribbean to our West Side Thursdays summer concert series in partnership with the City of Providence. This event also welcomes Providence Children's Museum, bringing loads of fun kids’ activities to Dexter Park.

Set against the backdrop of the Armory Farmers Market, West Side Thursdays – now in its 16th year – is WBNA's free and family-friendly destination event that takes place over several Thursdays in summer, and features live music, activities for kids, Beer Garden by Troop, rentable bocce ball and chess sets, food trucks/vendors, and more!

West Side Thursdays bring neighbors together while showcasing local artists and musicians, and are a great way to let off a little summer steam. For a full schedule of performances and events, go here.

about The Artists

Sidy Maïga and Afrimanding bring the sounds of traditional Malian percussion together with cross-cultural fusion for an electrifying experience. Based in Rhode Island, Sidy Maïga is an award winning drummer originally from Mali, West Africa, who specializes in djembe and dunun. Maïga performs solo all over the world and with his band, Afrimanding, which combines the best of West African percussion traditions with the modern rhythms of hip-hop and the Caribbean.

West Side Thursdays is made possible by a grant from the City of Providence and with support from our sponsors, and is part of Mayor Jorge Elorza's 2019 Celebrate Providence! Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative.
